Elm is one half of the old stable block, with Oak next door. Everything is on one level: the living space with the king bed, a teal sofa and a smart TV, a kitchen with an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and a coffee machine, and a shower room with a heated towel rail. There's a Bluetooth speaker for the evenings, an ice maker in the kitchen and a dog bed so that is one less thing to pack, and the forest mural on the end wall brings the woods inside with you.
We'll be honest about the scale, because our guests are: one review called Elm a "Compact cottage, but ideal as base for visiting surrounding areas." That's fair. It's a cosy space built properly for two people and their dogs, not a family cottage squeezed down, and it works because everything you need is here at that scale, with the whole Forest of Dean waiting beyond the gate.
The dogs are as welcome as you are. Two can stay in Elm, free, and Elm's enclosed paddock is a few steps away. Each stable has its own, so your dogs run off the lead in a space that is private to you. The dog wash station with blow drier is free to use as often as you like, which matters more than you'd think after a muddy day in the Forest. One guest staying in Elm wrote that "everything is catered for, down to some welcome treats on arrival for us and the dog!" and that's how we like to run the place.
Outside you have your own enclosed front garden with a sitting-out area, garden furniture and a gas barbecue, a designated parking space for one car, and an EV charging point at £0.40 per kWh, paid to us directly. Oil central heating and Wi-Fi are included, bed linen, towels and a welcome pack for you and the dogs come as standard, and the washing machine and tumble dryer in the shared utility room have tablets and softener waiting. We're an adults-only place. And if you'd like both stables and both paddocks entirely to yourselves, you can take the whole place.
